Check out our new writing project!

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Hey Class!

We have a new writing project. Look to the right and click on the Famous Americans Mystery Write-Up. There, you will get three clues about a famous American. You will have to find out who it is and then write a short paragraph about the person. You will get one or two pieces of paper for the raffle jar, depending on the quality of your work. Can you solve the mystery?

Good luck!

Listen to our second podcast and take a spelling practice test!

Practice spelling test

Same as before. Click on the comments link below this. After you do that, type in your name, your email address, and the anti-spam word. Then type your sentences. Once you have checked to make sure they are correct, hit submit comments. They might not show up right away because they are sent to me before they are published. I will publish them for everyone else to see a couple times during the night.

So, give me your best sentences. You will get your name in the jar if you write your sentences here. Then I will pull a winner to pick from the prize box!

The Media Center Needs Help!

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Dear Parents,

Our media center / library needs your help. We are trying to organize all of the books for the new Reading Counts program. If you have any time available to help us pull books from the library shelves, please let me know or just stop on by. Lisa Lester, Patty Bruns, and Stacy Jimenez have been there the last couple of days, but we need more people.  Come on by the library next week and they can show you what we need to do.

 Thanks so much,

Barin McGrath

Weekly Spelling Sentences

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Hey Class!

This week we are going to try something different. Instead of writing your spelling sentences on paper this Monday, I want you to type them into the comments section of this post.

The class will vote to see who has the best sentence on Tuesday. The winner gets a homework pass!

USS Midway field trip on October 18!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Midway’s Science and Math Labs

We have a date for the Midway! (Oct. 18) Parents, please turn in your insurance papers if you can drive. I have heard wonderful things about this trip and am looking forward to it. Below is a quick description of what we’ll do.

Grade 5: On Board With Weather

Batten down the hatches…

During its marathon sea deployments Midway operated from the cold weather seas near the Arctic Circle to the sweltering heat of the Persian Gulf.  Come on board and learn how weather affected all aspects of midway life from launching and recovery of its aircraft to re-supplying the aircraft carrier at sea.  In an exclusive visit to the Task Force Control center where the Admiral was in a simulated hurricane-tracking exercise.  As students plot the longitude and latitude of the hurricane’s location, they will make recommendations on how to safely manage a fleet of ships under their control.
